Spencer Public Library February 09, 2026. At Spencer Public Library, NC: Today at one pm Essie Academy brought the entire school from grades K-8th grade for a special Black History presentation including stories read by local author Yvonne Hampden and steel and African bongos played by Nate Brown. Yvonne brought goody bags with tootsie roll pops, a banana, a whistle and more to accompany her story The Man on the Moon, Eating a Banana. The younger children listened to her story which told of her family in New York.
